Summer House League - September

Description:

AHL_SUMMER_AAD_HorLogo_940w

Many of you have experienced the differences in yourself and your dog that can occur during a higher power event such as house league, even though you are still on “home turf”. It can be difficult for some dogs to make a smooth transition to trialing because not only are there so many different things to get used to, but their is no reinforcement permitted in the agility competition ring. On top of that, your dog might find that you are nervous or distracted and potentially not as mentally available as in a normal class situation. The combination of these factors can actually make it very difficult to make the transition from training to trialing. The Summer League program is an opportunity for me to assist you with this experience and give you guidance and feedback on how to help you and your dog acclimatize to this shift.

Our Summer League events will be taking place near the town of Moffatt, Ontario. We will be renting both the indoor arena and the outdoor fenced field.

There will be three runs set up like our Winter House League usuals, and I will arrange for both indoor and outdoor options so that each of you can assess what you feel your team’s strengths and weaknesses are and get a feel for the new location and different equipment. I have been looking for a suitable location for our summer league for some time and am really pleased with this spot. Having both indoor and outdoor arenas at a reasonable rental rate is a bonus and allows us to head for shelter if the weather is bad but also gives us two very different surfaces to work with.

The dates booked are as follows:

Sunday May 28

Sunday June 11 here at AAD

Sunday July 23

Sunday Aug 27

Sunday Sept 17

TIMING: 11AM - 2PM

During each Summer League event there will be three separate runs set up for you to practice your skills and learn more about how your dog responds to the new environment, Our course options will start fairly simple and straightforward, as the goal will be to concentrate more on your dog’s ability to maintain skill level and focus in the new context and for you to be able to reward and reinforce appropriately.

Our event that takes place on June 11, will actually take place at AAD. This will be our chance to analyze your first experience on May 28th and make a plan going forward. I want to hold Event #2 at our building so that I can go over the principles of proofing your training for performance as each dog and handler team is unique.

The following events will take place at Corrine’s farm. Emphasis for each event will be on selecting and maintaining criteria and rewarding your dog for accordingly under more difficult circumstances.
