Pet First Aid Certificate Course

Walks 'N' Wags Pet First Aid is a Vancouver based company that offers a comprehensive course where pet owners can learn to provide emergency first aid for cats and dogs. As responsible owners, it is important to know the variety of hazards that pets can unwittingly be exposed to and prevent the possibility of injury, illness, and premature death or disability. The skills you learn will be practiced on live animals. You can bring your own "user-friendly" pet or share one.

Course contents include:

  • Prevention of illness and injury
  • Restraint and transportation
  • Shock, vital signs
  • Bone and joint injuries
  • Poisoning
  • Medical conditions
  • Injuries from heat and cold
  • Whelping and queening
  • Administration of medication
  • Choking Skills
  • Artificial Respiration (AR)
  • Cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
  • Dealing with grief

    This course is taught by certified instructor Renee deVilliers. Renee has developed an extensive knowledge on the subject of pet first aid and has taught hundreds of pet owners and care givers over the past 11 years. She is the longest teaching pet first aid instructor in Canada. The course is veterinarian studied and approved and will give you the necessary information and skills required to stabilize an injured animal until qualified veterinary care can be accessed. There are no paramedic services for cats and dogs. In the event of accident or injury you must be able to act quickly and decisively as it is your quick response to these situations that will make the difference.

    The course fee of $210 ($185.86 + $24.16 hst) includes:
  • 10 hours instruction time
  • Reference manual and support material
