Pet First Aid Course

Description:

All About Dogs - Walk N' WagsWalks ‘N’ Wags Pet First Aid is a Vancouver based company that offers a comprehensive course where pet owners can learn to provide emergency first aid for cats and dogs.

The course is veterinarian studied and approved and will give you the necessary information and skills required to stabilize an injured animal until qualified veterinary care can be accessed. There are no paramedic services for cats and dogs. In the event of accident or injury you must be able to act quickly and decisively as it is your quick response to these situations that will make the difference.

As responsible owners, it is important to know the variety of hazards that pets can unwittingly be exposed to and prevent the possibility of injury, illness, and premature death or disability. The skills you learn will be practiced on live animals. You can bring your own “user-friendly” pet or share one.

This is a one day certification course that starts at 8:30am. The end time is estimated between 5-6pm depending upon enrollment and questions (the last portion of the day will be a multiple choice test so you are free to leave when completed and will be issued a certificate on the spot).

Course contents include:

  • Prevention of illness and injury
  • Restraint and transportation
  • Shock, vital signs
  • Bone and joint injuries
  • Poisoning
  • Medical conditions
  • Injuries from heat and cold
  • Whelping and queening
